This visual program with dialogue spotlights the varied responses to
biblical text by Jewish-American artists. Using a wide range of materials
and skills, from the Renaissance drawing technique of silverpoint with gold
leaf applique; paintings of gouache (opaque water-based paint), oil or
acrylic on canvas, duck cloth, or clay; sculpture of alabaster, bronze,
marble, painted plaster, wood, or steel; their artworks interpret citations
from this first book of the Bible in many different ways.
The artistic approaches reflect and incorporate the cultural milieu and
specific experiences of these artists. This presentation includes works by:
